I came across this blog recently and its basic point is that as marketers we have over saturated a medium by creating far too much content.
It uses the example of using a website to buy pizza because they like it rather than because it has an online relationship with it.
So why go to all the effort of creating all this content?
Among other positive reasons, the main reason is why we do most things on the internet - Google.
Trying to decipher what Google likes is difficult but it seems to like websites that regularly update.
Of course all this can change as Google changes it algorithms. For now it's probably best to keep writing those blogs, stories and articles.
Time is the new currency and while the hype machine may indicate that you should produce a lot of content your audience just doesn’t have the time to read most of it. Step away from the Internet for a while and most likely when you come back you’re going to find your RSS feed(s) with hundreds of stories along with updates to your social media feeds. Consumers are being bombarded with content and the truth is that they just don’t have the time to read it all which is why most people ignore it.
