Regulation and the web is a tricky subject. For some it is a battle ground for the rights of the individual over the pressures of the state but when do the rights of the innocent outweigh the freedoms of many when it comes to security? Into this hotbed steps another big brand owner.
One suspects Google and Facebook will listen given revenue loss can be immediate unlike regulation that may take many years.
There is an opportunity here for brand owners to begin to redress the balance a little. When we step back from things it is odd that a communication channel can be so important. Its a bit like the Royal mail being more powerful than the content of the letters they deliver. But ooops we find another problem - did anyone stop doing direct mail because people sometimes used the post for delivery of illegal content?
